When the father-of-the-bride proudly gives his daughter away at the wedding altar he often feels a sense of sadness, loss and deep admiration due to the realization that “daddy’s little girl” has finally grown up. And although a new chapter is about to begin in both of their lives he’s ultimately the pillar of strength that will help to make the big day run smoothly. The father-of-the-groom experiences his own sense of emotional turmoil during this time. However, similar to his father-of-the-bride counterpart he’s also recognized as the guiding force that helps to keep his son cool, calm and collected. Therefore, it’s only appropriate that on one of the most life-changing days of theirs, and their son’s and daughter’s lives that they look as confident and elegant as their strong presence exudes.
As important members of the wedding party, the groomsmen should always wear coordinating tuxedos (or suits) in order to look as uniform as possible. However, even if a wedding has a strict theme to follow it’s essential that the fathers of the bride and groom have a say about how they’d like to look when they perform the main task of giving their daughter and son away.
The best way to make their appearance stand apart from the rest of the crowd, yet have their looks seamlessly fall into place with the entire group, is to allow both fathers the option of accessorizing with their choice of colors. For instance, when it comes to complementing elegant black tie attire for a formal wedding, the basic black bow-tie and/or cummerbund could be replaced with a classic white paisley design, or another solid hue from the color palette of the actual wedding theme (e.g. such as red, blue, pink, gray etc.).
A single-breasted polyester suit in a light gray plaid, solid navy or beige hue is the perfect outfit to highlight a nostalgic ceremony. You can complete this ensemble with neutral color ties/cravats and handkerchiefs, combining solid or primary colors wedding theme colors will work wonderfully to distinguish the patriarchs of the wedding.
If a more relaxed look is desired, then a light blue, tan or cream cotton-twill single-breasted suit are the quintessential color choices for a beach wedding, or less formal ceremony. A great option is to go tieless and use cool tones such as blue and navy gingham checks, or light yellow and white hues for fashionable personalized handkerchiefs. Even a distinctive boutonnière and cufflinks will cleverly highlight each father’s unique personal style.
If only for a brief moment to introduce the joining of their two families, the fathers of the bride and groom deserve their time in the spotlight when the big day finally arrives. And there isn’t any better way to recognize their importance than by allowing them to stylishly express their unique personal styles.
